Child/Adolescent Counseling
Children and adolescents can go through periods of time where they feel out of control, overwhelmed and making happiness seem like an almost unattainable goal. In addition to managing their developmental needs, sometimes children have to deal with other circumstances such as separation, death, crisis, trauma, and chronic illness.
Counseling is one of the ways that a child or adolescent them work through their feelings, manage their anxieties and worries, and learn to manage these life stresses. Some of the aims of the therapy are for the children and adolescents can be to:
- Take responsibilities for behaviors and develop more successful strategies.
- Develop new and creative problem solving skills.
- Develop respect and acceptance of self and others.
- Experience and express emotion.
- Foster empathy and respect for self and others.
- Learn new social skills and relational skills with family and others.
- Develop self-efficacy and a better appreciation of their personal abilities.
